Freshaman Dons vs. Ventura, March 26th
The Freshman Dons picked up another Channel League victory Friday night, heading into spring break with a solid 6-3 win over Ventura. Tanner Guerra started on the mound and pitched well, allowing just one run in 5 innings. The Dons scored first when Johnny Brontsema drew a lead-off walk and the next 5 batters put the ball in play. Ventura threatened to score in the 2nd, but a great play at the plate by Beau Parker and Toby Minehan kept the lead. Ventura tied it up in the 3rd off a single and a double. In the bottom of the 4th Tanner Guerra hit a solo home run to take back the lead. Errors by Ventura allowed Toby Minehan and Pete Ghersen to reach base, and Toby stole home to make the score 3-1 after 4 innings. Ventura threatened again in the 5th, but great defensive playpicking off base runners kept them from scoring. In the bottom of the 6th, Johnny Brontsema was hit by a pitch and then Zach Torres and Jason Jimenez walked to load the bases, then all scored on RBI singles by Michael Day and Miles Waters to make the score 6-1. Ventura threatened again in the top of the 7th and scored two more runs, but solid defensive play shut them down to hold on for the win.
