The Dons Freshman team took the Channel League Frosh championship with a hard fought win at Buena! Connor McManigal started on the mound and shut out Buena for the 1st two innings. In the 3rd, Buena took the lead with a single, a sac bunt, and another single to make it 0-1. In the 4th, Michael Day drew a lead-off walk. Then Tanner Guerra singled and Zach Torres hit an RBI double. Toby Minehan then reached on an error, but Buena recovered and got an out in a rundown at the plate. Miles Waters walked to load the bases, and Johnny Brontsema drew a based loaded walk to make the score 2-1. Evan Smith took over on the mound in the 4th. Buena got one run back on a double and an error to tie the game 2-2. After a scoreless 5th inning, the Dons took back the lead in the top of the 6th when Toby hit a lead-off single and Miles followed it up with an RBI double. Buena threatened to come back in the bottom of the 6th, when the first two batters reached base. The third batter then hit a shallow foul popup near the 1st base line and Jason Jimenez ran out to catch the ball for out #1. Jason then threw the ball to 1st to double the runner off for out #2. The parents in the stands then earned an assist, shouting that the runner on third, who had come in to score, had not tagged up. The ball was thrown to third and the runner was called out for a 2-3-5 triple play!!! Buena threatened again in the 6th and loaded the bases with one out, but great Dons defense saved the day again with a 4-6-3 double play to close out the win. The Dons hung on in a nail biter, winning a 3-2 battle and earning the frosh championship!

The Dons logged another league victory against Buena, winning 5-2. Tanner Guerra started and pitched 5 great innings, striking out 8 batters and allowing just one unearned run. The Dons offense battled against a strong starting pitcher for Buena who had six strike-outs in the first two innings, ten for the game. In the top of 2nd inning, Buena took the lead scoring a run on two hits, and error and a hit batter. In the bottom of the 2nd, Tanner Guerra drew a lead-off walk, and Zach Torres followed with a double and took third on a failed throw to the plate. Zach then scored on a wild pitch to take the lead 2-1. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Dons put two more runs on the board when Connor McManigal tripled, Jason Jimenez hit an RBI single, and Michael Day followed with a double. Then Zach drove in another run to make it 4-1 after two innings. In the 5th, Buena got a run back on a hit, a walk, and an error, to tighten the game to 4-2. In the 6th, the Dons got the run back with a triple by Connor, then Jason Jimenez reached 2nd on a fielder's choice but Connor was thrown out at the plate. Michael Day then hit an RBI single to make the score 5-2. Connor took over on the mound in the 6th and pitched two shutout innings with four strkeouts to close out the win and even the season series against Buena 1-1. The win put the Dons one win away from a league championship!

The Dons completed a three game sweep of Ventura Friday. Tanner Guerra started on the mound and threw 6 great innings, allowing just 2 hits and no earned runs. The Dons scored first in the bottom of the 1st inning when Johnny Brontsema and Toby Minehan walked and were driven in by Jason Jimenez and Connor McManigal. Ventura came back with a run in the top of the 2nd, but in the bottom of the 2nd the Dons got 2 more when Jason hit a single and then Michael Day and Connor McManigal hit back to back doubles. The score remained 5-1 Dons until the bottom of the 4th inning, when Toby Minehan hit a single, Jason Jimenez reached on an error, and then Michael Day hit a single to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Tanner Guerra crushed a fast ball over the left field fence for a GRAND SLAM! After a Ventura pitching change, the Dons continued to work. Zach Torres walked and later stole home on a pass ball, to make the score 10-1 after 4 innings. Ventura scored twice more in the 5th inning and added one more in the 7th, but it was too little too late. Dons get the season sweep, winning convincingly 10-4.

The Dons picked up another Channel League victory at Ventura Tuesday night, winning decisively 10-3. This time it was Evan Smith who pitched a complete game, throwing seven solid innings and allowing one earned run. The Dons got off to great start, mostly using their eyes instead of their bats, and scored 7 runs in the top of the 1st inning on 4 walks, 2 hit batters, and 2 hits. Toby Minehan hit a bases loaded double and Johnny Brontsema hit a single to knock in two runs each. Ventura got 1 run back in the 3rd, but Santa Barbara answered in the 4th when Jason Jimenez was hit by a pitch (his third time that game) and scored on a hit by Toby Minehan. The score remained 8-1 until the 7th inning, when the Dons added 2 more runs on 4 walks and an error. Ventura got 2 runs back in the bottom of the 7th, to make the final score 10-3.

The Freshmen Dons made it three wins in three days Friday with another strong victory over DP, winning 11-4. Tanner Guerra pitched the complete game victory, throwing 7 strong innings and allowing only one earned run. DP took their only lead in the top of the 1st, when the lead off batter singled and scored on productive outs. In the bottom of the 1st, the Dons batted through the order, racking up 8 runs on 5 walks, 3 hits and an error. In the 3rd inning, the Dons padded the lead when Peter Gherson hit a lead off single, Johnny Brontsema walked, and Jason Jimenez and Conner McManigal drove in runs.

SBHS Freshmen at Dos Pueblos 4-22-10 The Dons came out stong to avenge their extra innings loss to DP the first time they met this year, winning decisively 12-7. Conner McManigal started on the mound and pitched well for five innings, allowing only four unearned runs. SB scored first in the top of th 1st inning when Johnny Brontsema drew a walk and was driven in by Michael Day. DP came back in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs to make it 1-2. In the top of the 2nd, the Dons rallied with two outs to score 3 more runs. Evan Smith walked and took 1st on a pass ball, then Miles Waters drove in the run with a single. Base hits followed by Johnny Brontsema and Toby Minehan to score two more. DP got one run in the bottom of the 2nd to make the score 4-3 after two innings. In the bottom of the 4th, DP retook the lead when timely hitting followed a lead-off error. In the top of the 5th, the Dons came back and score 3 more when Jason Jimenez walked, Michael Day singled, Conner McManigal singled and drove in Jason, Evan Smith singled and drove in Michael, then Johnny Brontsema drew a bases loaded walk. The Dons followed up the 3 run 5th with 4 more runs in the 6th. Jason Jimenez lead off with a single and took 2nd on a wild pitch. Michael Day followed with a double and drove in Jason. Conner moved the runner to third, then Zack scored Michael with a Sac Fly. Again the Dons kept the pressure going with two outs, when Peter Ghersen singled, Evan Smith walked, and Miles Waters drove in Evan and Peter. In the 6th, Evan Smith took over on the mound and held DP to two runs in the final two innings. In the 7th, the Dons added another run when Johnny Brontsema lead off with a double and scored on an error. Final score 12-7 to tie the series at one each.

On a very chilly and windy evening, the Dons won against Carpinteria 10-6. SB got on the board first when Johnny Brontsema was hit by a pitch, Jason Jimenez walked, and Michael Day singled in two runs. Beau Parker started on the mound and held them scoreless in the first to make it 2-0 after 1 inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, Carpinteria came back and scored 5 runs off 2 hits, a hit batter, a walk, and an error. Miles Waters took over on the mound in the 3rd and pitched 4 strong innings. In the 3rd the Dons came back with 3 runs, taking advantage of three walks and three errors. Carpinteria scored again in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 5-6. Michael Day reached on a single in the 4th and scored, to tie it up 6-6. In the 5th, SB put 3 more runs on the board when Miles Waters singled, Johnny Brontsema reached on an error, and Jason Jimenez and Conner McManigal drove in runs. Zach Torres singled in the 6th and scored on a pass ball to make the final score 10-6.

The Freshman team couldn't pull off a three game sweep of the Royals, losing their final matchup this year 9-5. The game started well when Jason Jimenez, Michael day, Tanner Guerra, and Conner McManigal strung together a double, a single, and back to back doubles to plate three runs putting the Dons up 3-0 after 1 inning. In the top of the 2nd, the Royals came back with 7 runs on just 2 hits to make the score 3-7. In the 4th, Peter Gherson walked and scored on an error to make it 4-7. San Marcos got 2 more runs in the 5th to make it 4-9. In the 6th, Evan Smith scored on a walk and hits by Johnny Brontsema and Beau Parker to cut the lead to 5-9.

The Dons won a battle against San Marcos 9-6. Tanner Guerra started on the mound and pitched four solid innings. The Dons got on the board first in the 2nd inning when Conner McManigal hit a double and came in to score on a bunt by Miles Waters. San Marcos came back and tied it up in the bottom of the 2nd with a lead-off walk followed by three productive outs. After a scoreless 3rd, the Dons added three runs when Conner, Toby Minehan, and Zach Torres all scored on 1 hit, 3 walks and 1 error. In the bottom of the 4th, San Marcos came back with 2 more runs to make it 4-3 after 4 innings. In the bottom of the 5th, San Marcos took the lead when 3 walks and back to back doubles allowed 3 more to score. The inning ended when, with runners at the corners, San Marcos tried to steal home by forcing a pickle between 1st and 2nd, but the boys got the out at the plate. After 5 innings, San Marcos led 4-6. In the top of the 6th, the Dons came back and scored 5 runs. Zach Torres lead off and reached on an error. Efron Sanchez and Johnny Brontsema drew walks, and Jason Jimenez was hit by a pitch to score a run. Johnny came home on a pass ball and the runners advanced, and Tanner Guerra was intentionally walked to load the bases with 2 runs already in and one out. Conner McManigal made them pay for the walk by smacking a triple to right field, scoring 3 more runs. Evan Smith took the mound in the bottom of the 6th and pitched 2 scoreless innings to close out the win.

The Dons pitchers struggled early against Buena and lost 12-7. After a good start in the first inning, it was 0-2 Dons. Johnny Brontsema reached on an error and scored on a pass ball. Michael Day hit and scored later on a hit by Conner McManigal. In the bottom of the second Buena put up 7 runs on 2 hits, followed by 5 more runs on 5 hits in the third to make the score 12-2. The boys threatened to make a big comeback in the fourth when the first 7 batters reached base, but came away with just 3 more runs to make it 12-5 after 4 innings. Jason Jimenez and Efron Sanchez each added runs in the 5th an 6th.
